"Again and again, it all falls back to me. When can I catch a damn break?" -Celosia
Celosia is an original character created by Jayshroom for the (unpublished) fancomic Genocide and Jaborosas. Orchid is an assistant to the current Royal Scientist, Alphys, as well as a primary engineer in the CORE. He has dedicated himself to the research of the Player, which he considers a 'parasite', and has tasked himself with its containment and destruction.
Biography[]
Celosia was born and raised in Snowdin Town to unnamed, reclusive parents, and had a largely (in his opinion, at least) unexciting childhood. He was highly intelligent throughout his early childhood, and his parents, seeing potential in the young prodigy, placed intense focus on Celosia's academic training, depriving him of early social contact with the other children of Snowdin. As a result, Celosia grew into an uncreative, studious personality, which further ostracized him from the other children when he was eventually also placed in a public education setting. His studies only intensified as he grew older, with physical reprimands being the punishment for what his parents considered 'laziness' or otherwise undesirable traits, traits which were largely subjective depending on the situation. Rewards were issued for 'good behavior', behavior which was considered 'intelligent' or 'mature' by his parents. This combination of contradicting unpredictability and consistency resulted in Celosia's personality further developing into a stern, disciplined personality, which was atypical for his young age and was often commented on in both positive and negative lights by his peers and teachers.
Despite the strict homeschooling and obligatory public school attendance, Celosia managed to make a few friends in his childhood, the most notable of which being the young skeleton Sans. They bonded over their shared affection for certain academic subjects - Sans' by choice, Celosia's by obligation, but they bonded over the topics nonetheless. Sans' presence was a reprieve from the constant studies Celosia's parents subjected him to, since company being present meant that Celosia's parents had to act socially 'acceptable', a requirement that both of the adults would scorn after the company had left. Celosia grew near-codependent upon Sans, and Sans upon Celosia, although the two had widely different reasons for the near-unhealthy bond under which their friendship thrived. By the time they graduated high school, it was almost impossible for the two to part, and it took significant effort for Celosia to leave for college under pressure from his parents. During college, Celosia changed his name to Orchid, and took Celosia as his last name instead.
After graduating at twenty-one years old, Celosia took multiple master's degree courses at once, completing a master's degree in Monster and Human Biology as well as Magical Engineering at the age of twenty-three. He self-published a study on human biology and magical capacities shortly after for his doctorate's thesis, and left to work for the CORE. His intelligence and capabilities allowed him to rise rapidly in the ranks, and the young adult quickly became one of Alphys' most trusted scientists.

Appearance[]
Celosia is a skeleton of medium height, slightly taller than that AU's Sans, but slightly shorter than Papyrus. He has lavender eye-lights, and, when using magic, this lavender becomes much more saturated in tone. He typically wears desaturated purple turtleneck sweaters, and during his work hours, he wears a cigarette-burnt laboratory coat. As of the present time in his AU, he has no definitive markings.
Personality[]
Celosia prides himself in his formal front, and speaks incredibly formally and clearly, and dresses accordingly. He is fiercely driven at his work, overworking himself near the point of collapse, and taking others' work into his own workload as a habit. Orchid is a severe workaholic, and foregoes any hobbies or pastimes outside of his work in favor of working in the CORE or in the labs. Despite his workaholism, he is fiercely loyal to his friends; his friends are the only thing that he will allow to tear him away from his work, if only for a short period of time. An old hobby of his is music; if he's too unwell to work, he will spend his day playing the piano, or, if he can't bring himself to do that, he will sit in his room and weave flower crowns for his friends. Celosia is highly intelligent, and will use his photographic memory combined with this intelligence to learn new topics and skills on a whim. He doesn't often branch out from his desired fields, only doing so as previously mentioned - when he's too ill to work.
Celosia is highly mentally unstable due to his pressured childhood, and suffers from extreme anxiety and self-esteem issues. While he can handle professional critique well, personal critique on his habits or personality has a chance to send him into a violent downward spiral. Celosia also suffers often from panic attacks and anxiety attacks; he uses smoking as a way to keep himself calm during his work hours, and uses his work as a distraction from the constant mental turmoil that he suffers through. However, his work is also a primary source of his mental turmoil, especially while the human is in charge of the timeline.
Abilities[]
As of his current position in his timeline, Celosia has the following abilities:
- Osteokinesis: Celosia can summon and manipulate bones in different colors, similar to that of his skeletal peers.
- Magiakenesis: Celosia can manipulate his SOUL into whatever shape he desires, typically a weapon. However, damaging this weapon also damages Celosia himself.
- Grip: Celosia can restrain the SOUL of a target and move it to his will at damagingly high speeds.
- Blasters: Celosia can summon Gaster Blaster-type Blasters, limited in damage but significantly faster than most typical Blasters.
- Warp: Celosia can dissolve into dust and warp anywhere within his field of vision.
- Lavender SOUL: Essentially another term for Purple SOUL Mode, an opponent's SOUL is tethered to purple strings of magic, upon which they can navigate. However, in this particular mode, Celosia can also grip a target's SOUL and manipulate its gravity through the strings.
Relationships[]
Sans[]
Celosia is close friends with the Sans of this AU, and the two have bonded to near-codependency. While they don't see each other nearly as often as they used to, Celosia often calls or texts Sans during his shifts so that he can have someone to listen to while he works. Celosia was the instigator for Sans' interest in astronomy, and enjoys hearing Sans ramble about astronomy. Sans is one of the few individuals who can convince Celosia to take a break from his work.
Papyrus[]
Celosia considers Papyrus to be a younger brother to him, and while their interactions are limited, he cares for him deeply and admires his skill in puzzle design. He also pretends to enjoy Papyrus' cooking in order to humor him, no matter how inedible it might be.
Alphys[]
Celosia's boss and co-worker. Celosia has mixed feelings for Alphys; on the one hand, he cares deeply for her as a monster, and relates to her anxiety in some sense. On the other hand, he resents Alphys for her procrastination issues which lead to Celosia having to take on most of her work. As well as this, Alphys has given Celosia broken and dangerous equipment to use multiple times knowingly, for which he also resents her slightly.
Landine[]

Celosia and Landine have only met a few times, mostly to exchange research, but Celosia finds Landine's determination inspiring, similar to his emotions towards Papyrus. He finds her philosophy of pushing through any kind of pain to be... amusing, in a way; he follows it closely, despite his emotions on it, as he finds that believing in something other than himself is somehow helpful to the preservation of his sanity.
Trivia[]
- Celosia uses he/him and they/them pronouns, but gets uncomfortable when Sans uses they/them pronouns for him the same way he does for Frisk.
- Celosia is ambidextrous, but favors his left hand.
- He is demiromantic and greysexual.
- Celosia switched his first name to Orchid once he moved out of his household; he preferred using Celosia as a last name.
- Celosia is confused by the prospect of being bound to one name.
- Celosia's typical font is the "Aster" typeface; however, when he gets overly emotional, it switches to the "Wingdings" font.
- Celosia writes in the "Indie Flower" typeface, and can speak and read the Wingdings cipher fluently.
- Celosia has a tendency to stick loose objects in his eye-sockets when he doesn't have any pocket space.
