"Just because you can Reset doesn't mean your actions won't have consequences. There is a consequence for everything, it just depends on how long that consequence will take to come into effect." Serif to Frisk during the Genocide run

Serif is a Human-Monster hybrid created by OreoHuntR. He is the fusion of Gaster, Sans, Papyrus, and an original human named Aaron and belongs to Undertale: Altered Universe. The fusion of these 4 beings created what is called "Entity Serif", or just Serif to most.

Biography[]

Aaron was born into a not so great family; his father was an alcoholic, and his mother a drug addict. They were both extremely abusive and barely paid any attention to Aaron, and if they did, he would be beaten because of their mistakes. He had thought about running away, the only problem was where he would go. This problem was solved when he heard some people talking about Mt. Ebott, a mountain where whoever enters is never seen again. There had already been 3 kids that had gone missing, so the next day, Aaron fell into the Underground. When Aaron fell, he landed on a patch of golden flowers, where he was also found by a goat monster named Asriel, son of Queen Toriel and King Asgore. Asriel then lead Aaron to his parents, who welcomed him with open arms.

After living in the Underground for a few months and meeting Gaster, the Royal Scientist, and Sans and Papyrus, his scientific assistants who were also his sons, Aaron started spending more and more time with Gaster, especially after Gaster discovered Aaron's soul of Determination. Although there had been 3 other humans that fell, and one of them also had a soul of Determination, Gaster was never able to conduct tests on a live, or even whole, soul. During his time with Gaster, he got to know Sans and Papyrus better, and they even became something like brothers.

Gaster would also conduct tests on Sans and Papyrus. Since they were created, instead of being born, they had artificially made soul traits. Gaster was trying to find a way to enhance these traits to make them stronger, but he could only go so far with artificially made traits. This line was drawn after the incident with Sans, which almost killed him.

This incident was an attempt to try and make Sans stronger by enhancing his artificial soul traits of Patience and Justice by shoving more of the trait into Sans' left eye. At first it seemed to be working, but that was before there was a short in the machine and exploded Sans' eye. Everyone was shocked and frozen with horror, but Aaron was a quick thinker, and he knew what he had to do. He ran into another room and grabbed a machine with one thick wire on both sides and a medium sized box in the center. Aaron knew this machine, he was the one that helped Gaster perfect it. It was a soul trait exchanger. Pretty self-explanatory, but Gaster was having problems with the exchanging part of the machine. It wasn't fool proof, but it was better to try than letting Sans die without trying something. Aaron ran back into the room where Sans was starting to dust. Aaron hooked one of the wires onto Sans' left eye, and the other wire onto his soul. The process began almost instantly. The machine began to drain half of Aaron's Determination soul, and what seemed to be Sans' Patience soul trait. During the end of the exchange, Sans began to melt instead of dusting, and because part of Aaron's soul was torn away from him, he body began to crack and degrade, but both started to stabilize after the exchange was complete. Sans now had an artificial Justice soul trait, and a pure Determination trait half, and Aaron had a half Determination soul trait, and an artificial Patience trait that didn't seem to want to bond with Aaron. Aaron also got a permanent crack on the right side of his face that extended down to his right cheek.

After this incident, Gaster became more obsessed with researching more about souls, both Human and Monster alike. He became more secluded in the lab and usually conducted tests on Aaron and Sans, but less and less of the latter. At one point, Gaster was able to separate his body from his soul, but kept his soul in a container to prevent it from shattering. As a result, Gaster also became more rash with his actions, which caused Aaron and Sans to push Gaster into the core. Aaron then began to live with Sans and Papyrus, and during that time he was drawn to the Lab by a mysterious force. After the 5th fallen human, Aaron decided to investigate what he was be drawn to in the lab.

Since Gaster had fallen into the core, another lab had been built on top of the original lab, so he had to take the elevator in the lab to get there. When he arrived, a wave of nostalgia hit Aaron, but that wasn't what he came for. Aaron continued down the long hallways of the True Lab, a name that he and Sans came up with for the old lab, until he was standing in front of a door that was all too familiar to Aaron. This was Gaster's personal experiment room, where he did God knows what. As he walked into the room, he started to notice the extent of the damage to the room. Random burn marks throughout, cracks in the walls and ceiling, the whole ordeal. He walked into the room even further, guided by the strange, almost presence-like feeling. until he was standing in front of a table. Like the walls, it was covered with vines and various lichen and moss, but what seemed like inside the table, something was glowing. Aaron put his hand on the table to investigate, but recoiled as some blood was drawn from his index finger. Then, a circular opening revealed itself and something began to raise toward the top into sight.

The cylindrical pod tore through the vines and moss, and what was inside the pod made Aaron's stomach churn. It was Gaster's soul; what was left of it. Gaster's soul looked like it had shattered at one point, but was being held together by a strange black goop. The pod then opened, and the soul started to break. Aaron started to panic, not knowing what to do, but something was urging him to grab the soul and absorb it, and in his panicked state with no other plan, he grabbed the soul with his right hand, and regretted it almost immediately.

Aaron's right hand began to be in extreme pain, but he was unable to let go of the soul, like it was grabbing onto him as well. The soul shattered, but the main object was completed. Gaster's soul had become nothing more than a picture. Worthless. Fake. Empty. The whole point wasn't to get Aaron to absorb his soul, but to fuse with the void energy that was holding it together, and whatever else happened was collateral. Aaron's whole being felt like he was going to explode, his soul like it was going to burst. The void was a powerful thing, but it could be tamed. Aaron's determination was able to condense the void into a single, small dot in the center of his soul. Sweating, aching, and borderline dead sat back against the table, panting. He then noticed that the palm of his right hand had a hole in it, like it had always been there. He also thought he seemed a tad bit taller, but he wasn't completely sure.

When he had returned to Sans and Papyrus, who were both very worried about him, they also noticed the differences. First they noticed he was definitely taller, and next they noticed the hole in his right palm, noting its resemblance to Gaster. Aaron then explained to them what had happened; the soul, the black goop void stuff, everything. They were both disappointed that he didn't tell them, but they both explained they were happy he was alright. Then Papyrus wanted to test to see if Aaron had gotten any new abilities, which he had. Aaron was able to summon the hands like Gaster had, but was only able to use Determination, Patience, and Perseverance, which on later inspection revealed that when Aaron had absorbed/fused with the void that was connected to Gaster's soul, he had also gotten Gaster's main artificial soul trait, which was Perseverance.

Everything was normal after that. Another human fell, also giving their soul to the King and Queen in the hopes of someday being able to free monster-kind. But when the 7th (not counting Aaron) human fell, everything changed. Sans was the one who noticed something was wrong. He didn't know what, but he knew something was off. Sans, being the Royal Judge, went to investigate while Aaron was visiting King Asgore, Queen Toriel, and Prince Asriel in New Home, wanting to thank them for taking him in without a second thought. When Aaron came back to Snowdin from New Home, he noticed that Snowdin was completely empty, dust flying through the air. He knew what this was. This was monster dust flying through the air. Aaron ran toward Sans' and Papyrus' house and flung the door open. Sans and Papyrus was nowhere to be seen, but there was a note on the table. The note said that Papyrus was going to try and capture the human in Snowdin forest, and it was addressed to Sans.

Aaron had a pretty good idea how this was going to play out based on the amount of dust in the air. Aaron ran out of the house and ran toward Snowdin forest, but was too late. By the time he found where Papyrus was, the small child had already beheaded Papyrus and started to walk away, but stopped when they saw Aaron. They paused for a second, but walked past Aaron like he wasn't there. Aaron ran up to the head that was Papyrus. Papyrus was trying to stay alive, but wasn't able to. When his entire body turned to dust, Aaron saw his soul about to shatter, but quickly reached out and clasped the soul, absorbing it. Aaron stayed on his knees in shock. He had just witnessed Papyrus die, then absorbed his soul. He would have tried to think longer if he hadn't heard a twig snap behind him. Aaron, thinking that it was the child that killed Papyrus, looked behind him and absentmindedly summoned bones to attack them.

Profile[]

Weapons and Equipment[]

  • Bone Sword: Serif can summon a bone sword and use it as a weapon. He can also just summon a regular bone and use it like a sword as well. He can use the Perseverance trait he gained from Gaster to make it stronger and make powerful slash attacks with it. His sword is closely modeled after Asriel's Chaos Sabers.

Phases and Stats[]

  • Phase 1: A [REDACTED] Time
    • Phase 1 is pure dodging, and phase 2 initiates when Serif fails to dodge and takes damage
  • Phase 2: Sins of a Damned Soul
    • This is when the opponent can deal damage to Serif. Phase 2.5 initiates when Serif is at 3/4 HP (75 HP)
  • Phase 2.5: Choices
    • This phase is more like a single turn where Serif spares his opponent. If they attack him, Serif dies, but is revived with his determination, thus starting Phase 3. If his opponent spares Serif, then he kills them and tells them to Reset.
  • Phase 3: Feigned Serenity
    • In this phase Serif does not pull any punches. His mercy is expended, and does not believe in his opponent. Serif dies in this phase, but revives himself with the power of the 6 human souls, and Phase 4 occurs
  • Phase 4: System Divergence
    • With the power of the 6 human souls, he summons Sans and Papyrus from his soul. Serif is always in the battle, but Sans and Papyrus either switch in with each other or are fighting with Serif. Papyrus is wearing a full set of armor and Sans looks the same as Undertale Sans. When Serif is eventually defeated, Gaster uses the rest of the power from the 6 human souls to control Serif and summon 4 small hands that hover above him. The Player will not win this fight and dies because Gaser cheats and sets the Players HP to 1. This cannot happen outside of his AU.
  • Casual Theme Song: It's been a long night

HP: 100

Attack: 1

Defense: VOID

Appearance[]

Serif wears a trench coat similar to Epic’s original trench coat, except the purple parts are replaced with navy blue (hex code: #000080). He also wears a metallic silver turtleneck (hex code: #C0C0C0) and grey (hex code: #555555) athletic pajama pants with black tennis shoes. He also wears the same color silver gloves as his turtleneck. He has black, semi-shaggy hair with a scar on his right eye (refer to Gin!Sans). He looks like a normal human, but he also has a hole in his right hand palm, which his glove on his right hand has a hole to account for it. He is about 5’5” and has different styled eyes. His left eye is a light grey color that changes to Yellow, Purple, or Cyan (Justice, Perseverance, Patience) if he is using that soul trait. He wears an eyepatch on his right eye, which is Sans' skeletal eye, which can only glow red for Determination.

He also has multiple “scary/creepy” faces. One of them consists of the teeth in his Sans smile completely gone with blank eyes. Another still has the same grin, but the rest of his face appears to be melting like an amalgamate, with his right eye melting more aggressively than his left eye or his smile, which is also melting, causing it to be at an awkward angle. He usually keeps his hood down, but when he is very angry or in battle he will raise it onto his head, casting a shadow on his face.

Personality[]

Serif has inherited a combination of Sans, Papyrus’, and Gaster's personalities, while also retaining his own personality. He can be very lazy, but when he is provoked, his laziness disappears and is replaced with a serious but also toying/casual personality. When he is fighting, he will give someone another chance to redeem themself and be a better person, but he will only give you that one chance, and you will not get another one when you pass it up. Serif's Gaster is extremely intelligent which has been passed onto Serif.

Serif's Gaster personality can also shine through him when he is really mad. He can be very condescending and refers to those who aggravated him as subjects in his "little experiment." During battle, when he is truly mad, he changes and alters his attack patterns and the ferocity of the attacks compared to normal. He can also become very violent as a result.

He isn't hostile, but if you provoke him to attack or attack first, then he will attack back. He can be very rude to people that he doesn’t like, but doesn’t judge people based on outward appearance. He ventures out from his AU and visits his friends from other AUs, and protects AUs if he is around. He doesn’t like when people come to what's left of his AU and demand help, but he will hear them out and, more likely than not, help them. He usually explores the Multiverse alone and prefers to fight alone as well. If he does fight he prefers to take the hits of attacks. He is a good fighter, but is lacking in personal battle experience against Sans'.

Abilities[]

  • Telekinetic Death Magic: Usual Sans attacks including Blasters, white and blue bones, teleportation, and blue magic. Serif's blue bones are different from most though; when they come into contact with something, or someone, it/they cannot move and are stuck where the bones impaled them. These bones can be destroyed and do not cause any damage to the being on the receiving end.
  • Blasters: His blasters are stronger than a normal Gaster Blaster and can also be physically enhanced with the power of Determination, making them physically stronger for defense purposes but takes more energy than a regular blaster. He can summon only the top skull for defense, if need be. His blasters are very similar in design to Classic's, but their eyes change based on what Serif's eyes look like. Their blasts take on cyan shade when fired.
  • Hand Chroma: Serif has a hole in his right hand like Gaster, which can fire Determination and Perseverance blasts due to his Determination Soul and Perseverance trait. He can also use strings of Patience, but only with his right hand.
  • DT Extractor Blaster: This is Serif's most powerful blaster, and also his favorite. This blaster makes use of Serif's Determination, and leaves Serif very tired due to the amount of energy that was used. This is only used when Serif is backed into a corner and has no other choice but to use it.
  • VOID Defense: All damage that is dealt to Serif is reduced to 1, ignoring the ATK of the being, even if the ATK stat is infinite. This does not affect the damage of blasters, but removes KR from them and other attacks with KR. This is his permanent DEF stat and cannot be changed. This is a passive ability for it is his Defense stat.
  • Code Nullification: Nullifies any code altering powers AGAINST Serif, like character deletion and attacks of the like. This is a passive ability that does not require any activation.
    • Note: When someone uses said code attacks against Serif, a new form will be achieved during the battle. This version has the same abilities as before, but he now has the added ability to “glitch” through attacks. Serif's soul is incredibly unstable during this time, allowing the beings that make up his soul (Sans, Papyrus, Gaster) to aid him during battle. His voice also sounds like the combination of 4 different people all talking at once (Sans, Papyrus, Gaster, Aaron). This can happen at any point of the battle and will add onto the phase, continuing into the other phases as well. This also does not change anything in Phase 4, since Gaster does little to help before Phase 4.
  • Manual Termination: This ability makes Serif immune from attacks or abilities of other beings that would automatically shatter his soul, thus killing him. Instead, these attacks would hold him in place, but won’t do any damage to him (like Error’s string attacks). This does not make him exempt from being used as a puppet. Attacks that would also rip out his soul, like Betty Noire's Fear Spear, have no effect as well.
  • Portal Creation: Serif can create portals to the anti-void, void, or to different AUs.

Relationships[]

  • UAU Sans: The older brother figure. Protective, lazy, and funny, this Sans was also the Royal Judge of the Underground
  • UAU Papyrus: The younger brother figure. Hardworking, gentle, and strong, this Papyrus was a lieutenant in the Royal Guard with many supporters in and out of the Royal Guard.
  • UAU Gaster: The duncle figure. The Forgotten Scientist that created Sans and Papyrus. He has accepted his fate in the void, but that doesn't mean he didn't want to get out.
  • Bad Time Trio: A friend and ally of Classic, Swap Papyrus, and Shift Chara. Not part of the Trio, but a good friend to each member

Trivia[]

  • Serif is the merging of 2 monster souls, a Determination human soul, a part of the void (Gaster),
  • Because of how his soul was made, Serif has very high stamina/energy.
  • He would willingly help Error destroy Underlust.
  • When Aaron absorbs the void from Gaster's soul, Aaron gains the ability/power of the Perseverance soul trait, which joins the Patience soul trait in his left eye (half Patience, other half Perseverance when he becomes Serif). This ability also allows him to power up his bone sword with Perseverance, and create powerful slash attacks with it. He gains the soul trait of Justice from Sans, but he cannot use the power that comes with it.
  • If a Genocide route occurs, Serif will hint at knowing what you are doing, and will watch Sans and Papyrus fight and die fighting the player. Instead of fighting Asgore at the barrier, you fight him in the Throne room, and you instead fight Serif at the barrier.
  • Sans now has Determination and Justice, which allows him to have another phase during his fight with Frisk
  • Serif didn't know about the Multiverse until he accidentally created a portal into the Doodle Sphere unknown to Ink
